In my first blog post, I'll be taking you to explore the dreamland created by Yayoi Kusama with me.

The exhibition took place at Victor Miro, Wharf Road from 3rd of October until 21st of December 2018.

ABOUT THE ARTIST Yayoi Kusama, born and raise in Japan, is one of the prominent artists of 20th and 21st century. She is known for her works in different disciplines of art such as; painting, drawing, collage, sculpture, performance, film, printmaking, installation and environmental art as well as literature and fashion. Her art cannot be classified under a singe title as her works carry traces from different art styles such as Surrealism, Pop-art, Abstraction, the Zero and Nul movements, etc.

“My art originates from hallucinations only I can see. I translate the hallucinations and obsessional images that plague me into sculptures and paintings. All my works in pastels are the products of obsessional neurosis and are therefore inextricably connected to my disease. I create pieces even when I don’t see hallucinations, though.” -Yayoi Kusama

INFINITY MIRRORED ROOM – MY HEART IS DANCING INTO THE UNIVERSE (2018)The first part of the exhibition was the "Infinity Room". As an audience, it was a spectacular experience to be in the Infinity Room. The reflections of the dots and colors give the impression of entering to the imagination of the artist.

At the second room, the paintings were greeting the audience. The most used colors were yellow-black and red. And the most used form was the pumpkin. As she is coming from a farmer family, the "kabocha" squash forms are representing her roots. For her, it is a form of self-representation or even a self-portrait.

"FLOWERS THAT SPEAK ALL ABOUT MY HEART GIVEN TO THE SKY" At the garden, there were large-scaled flower installations. As it was already dark, the installation were shadowed but still impressive.

Overall, it was the first Yayoi Kusama exhibition that I went. And in my experience the the collection was extensive to meet the artist's mind.
